Reuse of the buildings there is moving steadily forward and the project\u00a0has largely been\u00a0a success. It continues to amaze me that more cities haven&#8217;t yet followed this example with their own abandoned Kirkbrides. NPR recently produced <a title=\"NPR: Reinventing a Former Mental Insitution\" href=\"http:\/\/www.publicbroadcasting.net\/michigan\/news.newsmain\/article\/0\/0\/1558825\/Michigan.News\/Reinventing.a.Former.Mental.Insitution\" target=\"_blank\">a\u00a0piece\u00a0on the project<\/a>\u00a0describing how it could be a model for developing sustainable neighborhoods in Michigan\u2014a state that&#8217;s been hit especially hard\u00a0by the economic downturn.
