An article in the Dayton Business Journal<\/a> says the state-run psychiatric hospital in Dayton (formerly Dayton State Hospital) will shut down in July. The closing is part of state-wide budget cuts going into effect this year.<\/p>\n

State Representative Clayton Luckie wants to find some sort of re-use for the hospital. You can read a little more about that here: Rep. Seeks New Use for State Property<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Another article\u2014153-Year-Old Hospital to Shutter<\/a>\u2014mentions that the “distinctive main building” (which can only mean the Kirkbride) is now a retirement center. I’ve never visited Dayton so I don’t know much about it.\u00a0A while ago someone told me that it had become a retirement home though, and I assumed that meant it was no longer part of the state psychiatric center. If anyone\u00a0knows if it is<\/em> still part of it, and that\u00a0this closing\u00a0means the Kirkbride is in danger of being abandoned, please comment.
