H. Richardson Complex\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wivb.com\/global\/story.asp?s=8831519\" target=\"_blank\">public meeting<\/a> concerning efforts to preserve the <a title=\"Pictures and History of Buffalo State Hospital\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kirkbridebuildings.com\/buildings\/buffalo\/\">Buffalo State Hospital<\/a> Kirkbride. At the meeting, the <a title=\"The Richardson-Olmsted Complex\" href=\"http:\/\/www.richardson-olmsted.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Richardson Center Corporation<\/a> revealed their <em>Historic Structures Report<\/em> (available for download on their <a title=\"Richardson Center Corporation Documents\" href=\"http:\/\/www.richardson-olmsted.com\/documents.php\" target=\"_blank\">documents page<\/a>). The report is a beautifully comprehensive collection of history and images of the hospital buildings, and you should definitely check it out.<\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t digested the whole report yet, but the part I find most interesting so far is the description of the hospital&#8217;s construction, development and eventual downsizing which begins on page 62. Included are maps of the hospital campus during different time periods, as well as photos of the buildings from over the years. Especially striking is an old photo from about 1880 of the unfinished Kirkbride (page 70).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Just to make things a little more interesting, I thought I&#8217;d also point out an online discussion about the preservation efforts: <a title=\"Richardson Complex Preservation Discussion\" href=\"http:\/\/www.topix.com\/forum\/city\/buffalo-ny\/T24P00311BCR8FEA6\" target=\"_blank\">Plans for H. H. Richardson Complex<\/a>.
