Weston State Hospital: Tour Schedule Announced

Tours at Weston State Hospital are set to resume in March 2008.

“Guided public tours of the historic Weston State Hospital will resume on Saturday, March 15, and continue on weekends through November 1. Tour hours through May: 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturdays; 12 noon – 3 p.m. on Sundays. Summer tour hours for June, July and August: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturdays; 12 noon – 4 p.m. on Sundays. In September, the tours will return to the spring schedule.” — from TheWestonStateHospital.com

Interestingly, the current owners are now referring to the place by an earlier name: The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. No doubt they’re trying to maximize awareness of the building’s history and heighten its appeal as a tourist destination. “Lunatic asylum” is certainly a lot more attention grabbing than “state hospital.”
