Topeka Admin’s Days Numbered

Topeka State Hospital
According to an article in the Topeka Capital Journal, demolition of the admin building at the former Topeka State Hospital (all that remains of its Kirkbride building) is scheduled to begin on or before June 1st. The building is only being torn down because of its dilapidated condition. There are no plans for using the space on which it currently stands. Read the article here: End Nears for TSH Building.

Sad, even though it’s all that is left, it’s still a pretty cool building. It doesn’t even look in that bad shape from the outside.

It’s not in bad shape at all. About 20 ft of basement floor collapsed down into the utility tunnel area but the rest is fine. All 4 of the large buildings on this campus are in decent shape and were build to last.

I am sorry to know it will no longer exist, except in photos and in the minds of those of us who have spent time in there.

ummm no offense and im sorry to inform you but that god foresaken place needs to be torn down or burned to the ground.did you know they castrated people for being “crazy”. In 1913, the Kansas legislature deemed that habitual criminals, idiots, epileptics, imbeciles and the insane could be subject to castration.
