Preserve Greystone

Greystone Park State Hospital
There’s a new web site concerning the fate of Greystone Park at www.preservegreystone.org. It’s owned by the group dedicated to preserving the Greystone Park site for recreation, open space and historic preservation, instead of residential and commercial development. If you’re looking for information on what’s currently happening with the Greystone Park campus, preservegreystone.org will keep you up to date.

The site clearly states that preserving the Kirkbride building is one of the group’s goals. It also mentions that there’s a steering committee in charge of exploring possible uses for the building and for establishing eligibility for tax-deductible charitable contributions to save it. Their next meeting is scheduled for today (Thursday, January 29) from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at Town Hall in Denville. The public is welcome to attend.

The site also has a downloadable petition which you can use to gather signatures in support of the group’s effort to stop private development of Greystone Park. I was told that the only restriction on who can sign is that the signer be at least 18 years old. So I urge everyone reading this to download and print the form and get some signatures. Just make sure the person’s address (including their state) is on the form in case it turns out they can’t use out-of-state signatures. That will hopefully make it easier for them to sort out if there is a restriction. Signatures must be submitted by Friday, February 27, 2009.
