“House” Filming at Greystone Kirkbride

Dr House at Greystone Park Hospital
Fox’s hit television series “House” is currently shooting at the former Greystone Park State Hospital according to this article on NJ.com: TV Show “House” to Film at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital. It sounds like the production is trying to keep things under wraps for now, so there’s not much information other than that the hospital will “play” the fictional Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital on the show.

Unfortunately, scenes from Greystone probably won’t appear on the program until next season. Also, the area will be closed to the public while filming takes place. I won’t be surprised if a few Greystone “regulars” manage to do a little spying though:) Not that I recommend or endorse such things mind you.

Another little interesting tidbit from that article is that a movie titled Marvin’s Room was filmed at Greystone Park. I wasn’t aware of that and will have to check it out to see what kind of footage of the hospital it has.

Just for the record, the photo above is something I photoshopped using a picture of Hugh Laurie and an interior photo of Greystone I took a few years ago.

I’m not a hardcore House fan, but I’ll try to post when this episode is going to be aired as soon as that information becomes available. If any of you House fans want to do me a little favor and let me know if you hear anything about that, I would definitely be grateful.

i just saw the end of the episode that just aired tonight, and there were some nice exterior shots of admin in the last minute or so.

I just watched it myself, Lewis. Gorgeous shots of the place, however brief. For anyone that missed it, the episode “Both Sides Now” will be available on the Fox “House” Web site in 8 days. Hopefully there will be more shots (maybe even some interiors) at the beginning of next season. Information on when that will begin to come later.

On a side note, one of the things that fascinates me personally about these Kirkbride’s is always the main road that leads to the main admin section. I think about the people that were being brought there and the thoughts and feelings they must have been having as they saw the place for the first time. This final scene of “House” captured that kind of moment and put a very human face on these institutions for me. For this character the moment was filled with both terror and relief; a very strange mix of emotions.

P.S. They renamed it Mayfield for the show.

Dang! I wish I had been able to catch this.

Thanks for the tip about the show being available on the web, Karen. I’ll make sure to watch it when it’s available, and to tune in for the first episode next season.

It’s funny that the name was changed to Mayfield. There’s an asylum near where I live called Mayfield.
Anyway, they did a great job of the interior shots. And there is rumor floating around that many interior shots will be shown for season 6.

….they didnt do any interior filming at greystone.

No, they didn’t do any interiors nor will they for next season. Graystone will be used just like the student union at Princeton, the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro hospital – a series of the same exteriors, probably all taken when they were there for the scene at the entrance. Most you will ever see will be some helicopter shots.

Here’s to season 6 and more (legitimate this time?) insanity!
